Cambodia Outreach Australian Ear Care Program

Dr Eng Ooi recently returned from his 2nd trip to Battambang, Cambodia where he was part of a group of Australian ENT surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and audiologists who provide ear care to people in Cambodia who are poor and disadvantaged. 

The group work together with local Cambodian health care workers seeing patients requiring medical care, perform operations, assessing their hearing and fitting them with hearing aids (donated from Australia). 

The majority of cases performed were to repair ear drum perforations and remove cholesteatoma (chronic ear disease that can cause meningitis and brain abscesses). Over 100 patients were seen and 20 major ear operations were performed in a week. 

Medical supplies and funds brought over for the trip were kindly donated by the members of the group, ASOHNS, and hospitals in Adelaide and Victoria.
